Young Zonta member receives scholarship for commitment to performing arts

Young Bunbury woman Maisy Rose has received a $5000 performing arts scholarship courtesy of Zonta Bunbury for her commitment to the performing arts. The 18-year-old was awarded the Josephine Spaull Performing Arts Scholarship, a prestigious award named in honour of the ballet dancer, teacher and examiner who was a Charter Member of Zonta International Clubs of Darling Range and Bunbury. Miss Rose has dedicated her life to dance, studying classical and contemporary dance classes in Bunbury before travelling the world to pursue her studies. At only 16, Miss Rose moved to Sydney to study full-time at Alegria Dance Studios, where she completed her senior year of high school overstate through the School of Isolated and Distance Education. She then travelled to Israel to complete a five-month intensive classical training program, and is heading to the UK in September to study a Bachelors with Honours at the Northern School of Contemporary Dance. This is the third year the $5000 scholarship has been offered, and the Zonta Club in Bunbury is proud of this year’s recipient. “Club members were enthralled by Maisy’s presentation,” scholarship panellist Jo Wittorff said. “There is no question that Josephine would be extremely happy with Maisy’s selection as the recipient of the tour 2023 scholarship,” she said. Former scholarship recipients have gone on to study full-time at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts, which Josephine Spaull OAM was a founding member of. Zonta International is a non-partisan global organisation working to build a better world for women through service and advocacy.
