The head of a South West primary school has urged students to use caution after a man was believed to have been acting suspiciously in front of the school grounds on Monday morning.

In a letter to parents, Adam Road Primary School principal Guy Asser said the alleged incident had taken place before school and urged students to take care.

Police are investigating the alleged incident and went to the school at 8.45am after a man allegedly made contact with a child.

Sen. Sgt Andy Carson said police were yet to establish any criminal conduct but had identified the man and were now trying to find him to understand what had taken place.

It comes after an 11-year-old boy was allegedly indecently assaulted by a teenager in a Dalyellup Shopping Centre toilet block on November 23.

The shopping centre is less than 6km from the school, and at least four registered sex offenders are believed to live near the school.

In the letter, emailed to parents and carers of students at the school on Monday morning, Mr Asser said students needed to take care and report anything suspicious to parents, the school and police.

“I am writing to inform parents and carers about a reported incident in the nearby community,” the letter stated.

“A parent from our school reported that on the way to school on Monday, December 6, a male person was acting suspiciously in the area in front of our school on Hotchin Street.”

Mr Asser said in the letter children should always travel in a group, stay in well-lit areas, be alert, run from a situation if they felt at risk, and never get close to a stopping car.
