Australian rock legends Thirsty Merc to take the stage at Bunbury’s Prince Hotel on Thursday, July 28

Australian rock legends Thirsty Merc are hitting the road for the first time in two years, with a gig in Bunbury on Thursday set to be one of their 27 stops across the nation. The band, which rose to prominence after their 2004 self-titled debut album went platinum, will be taking the stage of the Prince Hotel in Bunbury on July 28. Thirsty Merc will perform some of their hits including 20 Good Reasons and Someday, Someday, as well as re-imagined Australian classics from their new album, Celebration. The band said Celebration, which was released on June 17, sees them cover well-known Australian songs from across the decades including Who Listens To The Radio by The Sports, and Daryl Braithwaite’s As The Days Go By. Thirsty Merc frontman Rai Thistlethwayte said he and the band had enjoyed bringing some of the classics back to life, and were looking forward to putting them on show. “It’s been an extremely rewarding experience for us to explore some of the best Aussie songs on the new album,” he said. “Perhaps the biggest celebration, though, is for all live music fans. “After a few crazy years, we’re all still here together. “Gigs are back . . . and we want to be there to help you let your hair down!” Thirsty Merc said they had toured and recorded music consistently until the pandemic, where they decided to go back into the studio and work on Celebration. The band said they had been looking forward to when borders reopened and life would get “back to normal”. Thirsty Merc have released four critically acclaimed albums, and have more than 250,000 album sales under their belt. The band were a finalist in the APRA Song of the Year for their song 20 Good Reasons and have received five ARIA Award nominations.
