Damian Lane set to stake claim in Bunbury
One of Australia’s best jockeys will take to the Bunbury Turf Club track next Sunday at the annual Stakes Day event, when the South West’s Damian Lane returns home.
Lane, who has been riding in the Eastern States again this season, has been announced as the one of main attraction to this year’s Stakes Day, where he is set to take to the saddle for a number of rides.
Bunbury Turf Club vice-chairman Mark Bayliss said Lane’s return would be one of the highlights of the day.
“We are trying to get back the local riders who have achieved high standards,” he said.
“Damian has been in fine form in the past 12 months.”
Lane will ride for Stephen Miller in the Breeder’s Plate, when he sits in the saddle of Variation.
Variation and Lane won the Group 2 $500,000 Sky Racing-W.A. Guineas (1600m) at Ascot in Perth back in November.
Lane will ride in at least six races on Stakes Day, in his first time back at the track since last year’s XXXX Gold Bunbury Cup.
