Plans for $3 million kiosk in Collie’s Wellington National Park locked in with Bunbury builder at the helm

Plans to build a $3 million kiosk in Collie’s Wellington National Park have been locked in with a Bunbury builder at the helm. The State Government announced Perkins Pty Ltd will design and construct the new facility adjacent to Wellington Dam in an attempt to support local jobs while improving infrastructure at one of the region’s most popular tourism destinations. The new facility will be built alongside the park’s existing heritage-listed kiosk, allowing it to be repurposed. A courtyard between the two buildings is expected to create a vibrant visitor hub for people to relax before or after visiting the mega-mural on the dam wall, Reflections, or exploring the trails withing the park. Collie-Preston MLA Jodie Hanns said the project delivered on an election commitment to invest in Collie’s outdoor tourism future. “The new kiosk will support local jobs, strengthen the visitor economy, and ensure Wellington National Park continues to be a place locals and visitors can enjoy for generations to come,” she said. Environment Minister Matthew Swinbourn said the new kiosk would help ensure visitors could enjoy the park’s beauty with improved amenities. South West Minister Don Punch said projects like these would support jobs, strengthen small businesses and bring more visitors to the region. “It is a favourite for families and a perfect place to take the kids, with safe spaces to wander, picnic and enjoy nature together,” he said. “The new kiosk will be a welcome addition to the precinct, making family visits even easier and adding to the overall experience at Wellington National Park.” Regional Development Minister Stephen Dawson said the Collie Adventure Trails Initiative demonstrated creating jobs and improving infrastructure could be done by investing in regional communities. “By investing in projects that support tourism and local businesses, the Cook Government is helping build a more vibrant and sustainable future for regional WA,” Mr Dawson said. Collie was officially accredited as a Trail Town by Trails WA in 2024, recognising its growing reputation as a premier outdoor adventure destination. The extensive Wambenger Trails mountain bike trail network, in Wellington National Park, recently hosted the 2025 UCI Oceania and National Gravity Enduro mountain bike championships for the second year in a row.
