Regional audiences set to experience ethereal beauty of ballet in upcoming West Australian Ballet to

The ethereal beauty of ballet is set to hit the road when the West Australian Ballet gets ready to tour around regional WA. The West Australian Ballet will heading on a regional tour showcasing two productions later this month, with stops in Karratha, Mandurah and Bunbury. During the regional tour, WA Ballet dancers will perform Peter and The Wolf, a fun adaptation of the classic fairytale, as well as a showcase of classic and contemporary ballets in A Gala Evening with WA Ballet. Created for younger audiences, Peter and The Wolf follows the story of young scout Peter as he ventures beyond the garden gate and encounters a wolf, prompting him to work with his other animal friends to catch the scary creature. Following the matinee performances of Peter and The Wolf, which will include an opportunity for kids to meet and interact with the dancers, West Australian Ballet dancers will take the stage again the same evening. During the Gala Evening, they will perform excerpts from the much-anticipated WA adaptation of Swan Lake, the critically acclaimed Goldberg Variations, the intriguing duet Galatea & Pygmalion, as well as selected favourites from the company’s most loved works. WA Ballet artistic director Aurelien Scannella said there would be something for everyone during the company’s performances on the tour. “We don’t get to come out to the regions very often so when we do, I am always trying to put together an evening that pleases everyone in a way,” he said. “If someone prefers classical ballet, there is classical ballet on offer. “If not, there is some contemporary dancing as well so I’m trying to reach everyone’s taste and usually it is well-received by the audience. “There is a demand in the regions for the promotion of ballet and as much as we would love to be able to come out every year it always comes down to funding. “It will be a very diverse and international program going from classical ballet to contemporary dance.” Scannella said there was plenty of excitement building within the company to get out to the regional towns of WA. “We are always very excited to go on regional tours,” he said. “WA is a very big and beautiful State and everytime we travel around to share our beautiful artform we get a very good reception and people really enjoying coming to see our performances. “You can really feel the excitement before the show and after the show in the different towns.” Tour Dates Friday March 31 - Bunbury Regional Entertainment Centre.
