Roundhouse’s rebirth to start with a clean-up

Collie building company Jila Riley will undertake the first stage of an environmental clean-up at the Collie Roundhouse, in partnership with McMahon’s Services. The initial stage of the work is set to focus on the removal of asbestos from the roundhouse itself and lead paint from the carriages. Future stages will involve building conservation works to replace glass skylights and repair the timber stud framed wall and concrete roof. Vegetation hiding the building from view will also be removed. Collie-Preston MLA Mick Murray said it was important to make the site a popular destination again. “It will be a joy to see and visit the Collie Roundhouse, a significant industrial heritage landmark on the western entry to town, once again,” he said. “I am thrilled that a local building company is a key part of the team to undertake this work.” Jila Riley is a family business, run by Jeff and Leigh Riley with a history working on heritage projects. The clean-up is set to begin this month and be completed by September, at which time expressions of interest to lease the site will be released.
