Salvos rattle tin for regional aid
Salvation Army regional captain Mark Schatz is calling on people to give generously to support the organisation’s Red Shield Appeal this year.
The annual appeal is now in its 56th year in 2021 and is the charity organisation’s flagship fundraiser.
“It is a fundraiser to help the Salvation Army help others,” Mr Schatz said.
“The last 12 or 15 months have been difficult for a lot of people and the Salvos are there whenever disaster hits, when people are struggling or when the community needs help with food, accommodation or whatever.
“It is important to know that 100 per cent of the funds that are raised locally stay local, that means that people’s funds might help their neighbour, or their sisters or their mums.”
Mr Schatz said people could donate or help in a variety of accessible ways.
“We have a digital platform you can give at, we have static points which will appear all over the place in shopping centres around neighbourhoods, and businesses will have collection tins,” he said.
The Salvos are also looking for volunteers at their collection sites and “digital doorknockers” to create online fundraising pages.
“We need volunteers to man these stations around the place and just to be that smiling face for us in the community,” Mr Schatz said.
