Shire of Donnybrook-Balingup officially opens newly developed pump track after ongoing vandalism

A South West Shire known for being home to one of the best fun parks in the State has officially opened a $467,000 pump track to bolster family recreation in the region. The Shire of Donnybrook-Balingup has held an official ribbon-cutting ceremony last Thursday in celebration of the newly completed bike pump track which opened to the public earlier this year. It comes as part of the Shire’s major redevelopment of the town’s community precinct, funded under the Federal Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program. Located across the road from the Shire’s award-winning Apple Fun Park, the site includes a pump track, skills loop, a learn to ride track and play nodes as well as a half court with the existing shelter and community building also refurbished as part of the project. It comes only months after the Shire publicly appealed for information regarding “consistent vandalism” of the newly established pump track after many of the signs were damaged and needed replacement. Federal Member for Forrest Nola Marino attended the ceremony last week as a special guest and helped Donnybrook-Balingup Shire president Leanne Wringe cut the ribbon for the skate park to recognise the project completion. Mrs Marino said the opening of the pump track was a great initiative to improve the lifestyle choices of families in the region. “The Donnybrook Pump Track will support healthy outdoors activities for young people and their families,” she said. “The LRCI program has supported local governments during COVID to generate local employment while helping make our communities great places to live and work,” she said.
