South West soccer players are gearing up to battle it out in Bunbury’s annual Scallan Cup charity tournament

Soccer teams across the South West are getting ready to hit the pitch for Bunbury’s annual Scallan Cup charity tournament. The five-a-side soccer competition will take place on Albert Oval at the Bunbury Catholic College across Saturday and Sunday, raising funds for the St Vincent de Paul Christmas appeal. With more than 30 teams competing across the two days, committee member Alfie Patane said the organisers were excited for the event and hoped for good weather. “We’ve got more teams than we had last year,” he said. “We’ve been working hard to get it all up and running, and it looks like it’s going to be a good weekend.” On Saturday, 18 teams will compete in the juniors’ tournament — the Dixon Cup. A range of teams and South West soccer clubs will suit up to take home the trophy, including CCJSA and Believe Academy. During Sunday’s Scallan Cup, nine teams will battle it out in the men’s competition, with Ballers FC looking for a three-peat. After defeating Revelations in last year’s finals, the two top teams will both return to continue their rivalry. With six teams battling it out in the women’s division, Patane said it was going to be competitive with some teams even bringing players down from Perth. In each division, teams will play six games before moving on to finals to crown the top team. Play with heart, give with hope is the tournament motto, with all funds raised going towards the St Vincent de Paul Christmas appeal. Food donations will also be collected on the day. Those attending can expect a fun-filled day with music, food and soccer. Games will kick off at 10am each day following the tournament opening at 9.40am.
