SWFL men’s: Bunbury and Busselton register huge wins, Augusta-Margaret River back on the winners’ list

Bunbury registered a huge win over Dunsborough at Dunsborough Playing Fields on Sunday, smashing the Sharks by 125 points. The Bulldogs racked up their second triple-digit win of the season in the 20.15 (135) to 1.4 (10) domination, holding the hosts without a goal until the final term. Dunsborough’s final tally was the lowest across their 30 games in the league competition, with Daniel Atkinson’s finish in the fourth quarter at least ensuring they did not go without a major for the day. Meanwhile, the competition’s leading goal-kicker Joel Houghton did not add to his tally but the visitors shared the offensive load among 11 individual goal-kickers, with Baiden Parsons (four goals), Harry Creasey and Cooper Nitschke (three goals) the most prominent. Busselton also had a big victory on Sunday, taking down Collie by 79 points at Collie Recreation Ground. Leading by 40 points at three-quarter-time, the Magpies stacked on ten goals in the final term for the second consecutive week, running out 23.8 (146) to 10.7 (67) winners in a high-scoring affair. Star forwards Beau Chinnery (six goals) and Liam Creighton (four) both found the major opening with regularity for the winners, while young gun Ben Ganzer and star recruit Daniel Acres contributed two each. On Saturday at Gloucester Park, Augusta-Margaret River returned to the winners list with a 18-point victory over Carey Park. A five-goal to none second term set up the 10.9 (69) to 7.9 (51) victory for the Hawks in a hard-fought contest, with the Panthers refusing to go away in captain Jaxon Bell’s 150th league game. Kel Evans and captain Lincoln Adams were again among the hosts’ strongest performers, while Matthew Bannister (three goals) and young gun Oscar Armstrong (two) kicked multiple majors.
