SWFL women’s: Bunbury record equal-biggest win of season over Collie, Dunsborough back on winners’ list

Bunbury recorded the equal-biggest win of the South West Football League women’s season on Saturday with a 108-point thrashing of Collie at Payne Park. The Bulldogs boosted their percentage to an imposing 502.0 in an imposing 16.18 (114) to 1.0 (6) performance which matches Busselton’s win over Eaton in round five as the greatest margin so far this season. Former WA-contracted cricketer Poppy Stockwell, who had been playing with South Fremantle in the WAFLW, turned out for the winners and produced a four-goal performance, while star Sarina Tassone booted six. Saturday’s other game saw Donnybrook record their second consecutive win with a 43-point victory over Eaton at Glen Huon Reserve. A pair of State league stars also made big impacts for the Dons in the 7.2 (44) to 0.1 (1) result, with Courtney Zappara (Swan Districts) slotting six goals and Jess Verbrugge (East Perth) again one of the best players afield. On Sunday at Kelly Park, Dunsborough got back on the winners’ list with a 14-point victory over Carey Park. The Sharks, who started their season with five straight wins before suffering three consecutive losses, took out a hard-fought 4.9 (33) to 3.1 (19) win over the competitive Panthers thanks to two goals apiece from Saffi Jennings and Ellen Read.
