SWFL women’s: Harvey take down local rivals Harvey-Brunswick-Leschenault as Collie edge out Eaton

Harvey’s women’s team started their South West Football League season with a bang on Saturday, defeating local rivals Harvey-Brunswick-Leschenault by 43 points. An excellent defensive performance saw the Bulls hold the Lions scoreless for the first half and concede only two behinds for the day in the 6.9 (45) to 0.2 (2) win. Harmony Staszewski-Hose and Caitlin Shales booted two goals apiece for the winners, who are looking to avenge a loss in the preliminary final last year after a dominant 16-2 regular season where they dropped only two games. At Collie, the Eagles got their first victory of the season by beating Eaton in a three-point nail-biter. The two sides were locked at one goal apiece at the final break with the Boomers holding a three-point lead but the hosts managed to overturn the deficit and come away with the four points, with captain Laura Crowe, Talieha Barnes and Skye Washer named among their better players.
