SWSA action heats up for Round 2

South West Soccer Association side Busselton City and champions Bunbury Dynamos were the two big winners in round 1, but both face stiff competition this weekend. In spite of losing two of their key attacking players in Kosta Stavrou and Chadley Edwards, both to Dalyellup Rangers, the classy Dynamos capitalised on the midfield work of Dave Murphy, Darcy Vane and skipper Josh Cruickshank, spearheaded by pacy forwards Callum Vane, Jack Menzies and Corey Barclay. The reigning champions’ potent line-up will be back on home soil entertaining Hay Park, who were 3-0 victors over Australind last week. The Dalyellup Rangers were one of the best teams in the South West ahead of round 1, featuring Stavrou, Edwards and mighty midfielders Olly McGee and Ross Kirby, but were held to a 2-2 draw by Dunsborough after leading at half-time. Rangers president Christian McEnerney described the contest as one of the best displays of local football he had seen in years. Down south, the tough Josiah Allington-led Margaret River side takes on Busselton, who were 3-1 winners over Bunbury United last week, while the Rangers will look to make up for a disappointing result last week by bouncing back against United at home. On Sunday, the Australind Blues will also look to improve on a poor showing when they face Dunsborough. SWSA president Steve Gibson suggested Dunsborough could push more highly fancied sides for the title this year. “It looks like it is going to be Dalyellup, Dunsborough and Dynamos, I think those three will be the hardest to topple,” he said.
