Treendale Car Wash offers free clean this Anzac Day to all veterans and serving service people

The Treendale Car Wash will again offer a free clean this Anzac Day to all veterans and serving service people in a gesture the business described as “a pittance compared to their sacrifice”. This will be the fifth year the car wash has offered the free service which is available to Australian, New Zealand, English and US veterans. Treendale Car Wash co-owners Jaclyn and Troy Magill said they knew a number of service personnel and wanted to do their bit to say thank you. Co-owner Jaclyn Magill said WA seemed to have fewer initiatives to honour service personnel than other States and countries. “These sort of things are big in other countries and on the east coast,” she said. “But in WA we kind of don’t have that, so we really wanted to get involved. “We give them a $25 car wash, if that’s all we can give them I think that is a pittance compared to their sacrifice.” Former employee and veteran Paul Fairbanks said initiatives such as this were important after years of “animosity” due to the stigma surrounding the Vietnam War. “I think it is good, after Vietnam there seemed to be a lot of animosity and people would hide they were service personnel,” he said. “People just appreciate the recognition. “It is quite humbling, but it’s a good feeling.” Co-owner Troy Magill urged other businesses in the South West and across the State to come up with their own way of saying thanks. “I don’t think they get enough recognition from the public,” he said. “We encourage other businesses to step up and do the same, it is a small gesture of thank you.”
