Three men arrested as police investigate shooting, stolen car set alight in western Sydney

Three men have been arrested as police investigate reports of shots being fired and a stolen car set alight in western Sydney.

Police were called to Bennett Road at South Granville about 10.30pm Thursday after residents reported shots had been fired.

Local officers searched the area with assistance from the Riot Squad and Polair but no damage, projectiles or injured people were found.

However, officers were alerted to a stolen BMW X5 which had been set alight at nearby Ostend Street.

Fire & Rescue NSW extinguished the blaze but the car, which had been stolen from Elanora Heights in June, was extensively damaged and will be forensically examined.

Following inquiries three men aged 20, 23 and 25, were arrested and taken to Granville Police Station.

No charges have been laid.

Later in the night police were made aware of further information relating to the report of shots fired.

Officers found a Toyota Hilux utility at the intersection of Wells and Clyde Streets with damage to the front bullbar.

The car was towed and will undergo forensic testing, with investigations into both incidents ongoing.

Anyone with information is being urged to come forward.

Police will address the media with further information later today.
