A portable fan in a bedroom caused a raging fire that damaged a Ballajura unit on Friday morning.

Firefighters were called to the blaze on Meadowview Drive after neighbours noticed flames in the front bedroom of the unit about 3.45am.

A Department of Fire and Emergency Services spokeswoman said seven firetrucks rushed to the scene, extinguishing the fire by 4.15am.

The cause of the blaze has been deemed accidental after a portable fan caught fire a bedroom.

DFES said all tenants managed to safely evacuate the home.

Extensive damage was caused to the unit and to the roof of the property, after flames spread into the roof space.

Firefighters managed to stop the fire spreading to any nearby units.
