The two men in his passenger seats, aged 40 and 19-year-old, received several injuries while the driver of the Volvo fuel tanker was not injured.

The incident marks the second fatal crash on the notorious stretch of Bussell Highway in two weeks.

Investigators are appealing for anyone that witnessed the crash, or that saw any of the involved vehicles prior to the accident to contact Crime Stoppers by calling 1800 333 000 or by making a report online.

Premier Mark McGowan said the incident was a “terrible tragedy”.

“Clearly we have more West Australians driving around our regional roads than ever before, because people aren’t going on holidays – interstate or overseas,” he said.

“I just urge everyone in an environment where more and more West Australians are holidaying at home, just to be careful on our roads.

“Be safe, be secure, don’t drive tired, don’t drive drunk, don’t speed.”
