Protesters charged with disrupting traffic

Eight Extinction Rebellion protesters have been charged over disrupting traffic in Adelaide's central business district after gluing themselves to the bitumen.

The protest on Wednesday drew about 30 people calling for action on climate change.

They blocked traffic in Victoria Square for about two hours, causing major disruptions for morning commuters.

The seven women and one man taken into custody ranged from 44 to 74 years of age.

They were all charged obstructing the path of drivers and were expected to be bailed to appear in Adelaide Magistrates Court at a later date.

Police also handed out 10 fines to other protesters.
