As the royal family gathered for the traditional Easter service at Windsor Castle, the absence of several key members did not go unnoticed.

The Prince and Princess of Wales, William and Catherine, were joined by their three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, as they led the royal party, walking ahead of other family members down the hill towards St George’s Chapel in blustery conditions.

The Prince and Princess of Wales did not attend the service last year, opting instead to spend the Easter weekend privately with their children in Norfolk.

They were also absent in 2024, when the service took place just over a week after Catherine released an emotional video message revealing she had begun a course of preventative chemotherapy following her cancer diagnosis.

King Charles and Queen Camilla are also expected to attend the service usually attended by senior members of the royal family.

The outing also marks the biggest gathering of royals since the arrest of disgraced Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and his daughters Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie did not attend the service.

It emerged earlier this week that in agreement with their uncle the King, the sisters have made alternative plans and will miss the family gathering.

Last year, the Easter service saw King Charles and Queen Camilla joined by Prince Andrew and his former wife, Sarah, Duchess of York, at the 15th‑century chapel.

Since then, Andrew has stepped back from public royal duties following controversy surrounding his association with the late American financier Jeffrey Epstein. While Beatrice and Eugenie have retained their princess titles, Andrew no longer undertakes official engagements on behalf of the monarchy.
