Plans to develop public bathroom at Cott south beach facing another setback as community still at odds

A public toilet proposed for South Cottesloe foreshore could be heading back to the drawing board after a recent survey showed that residents were still at odds over the development. Findings of a community survey into two proposed locations for public toilets, along with concept designs, revealed 60 per cent of local respondents were against it. People who lived outside the survey catchment area, including people from outside Cottesloe, had a very different view, with support for the toilet development as high as 85 per cent. The survey included two possible locations along Marine Parade, both about 2km south of Cottesloe’s main beach where the closest toilets are located at the Indiana Tea House building. “Broadly, the view from those against have said that there is already an overprovision of nearby facilities, raising concerns about unnecessary costs and expressing a desire to keep the area in its natural state,” a report for the council read. Further delays would be another blow for beach lovers, who have been rallying for the Town of Cottesloe to install a bathroom at the South Cottesloe beachfront for several years. A total of 374 people responded to the survey.
