West Coast Eagles veteran Elliot Yeo ruled out of clash with Port Adelaide due to groin issue

Elliot Yeo’s nightmare run with injury has continued, with the West Coast veteran ruled out of his side’s game against Port Adelaide due to a groin issue.

The 32-year-old had been among the Eagles’ best performers in the first half of their road clash with the Power, kicking a goal from beyond the 50-metre arc among his seven disposals and applying four big tackles.

But rather than re-joining his teammates for the third term, he cut a forlorn figure on the bench, with the club confirming he would take no further part in the contest.

Former Power coach Ken Hinkley said he was hugely saddened to see Yeo go down again.

“You’d love him to get a run at it for a good period of time,” Hinkley said on commentary for Fox Footy.

Yeo, who has a long history with groin injuries including a lengthy battle with osteitis pubis in the past, has played only 59 games over the last six seasons due to problems with his body.

After missing the entirety of West Coast’s one-win 2025 campaign due to an ankle problem, he had performed strongly in both their season-opening loss to Gold Coast and breakthrough win over North Melbourne at the start of this year.

After the loss to the Suns, Yeo told The West Australian he had no doubt he could re-discover his best form in 2026.

“The quicker I can get back to full match fitness – I am still on managed minutes – the better,” he said.

“I cannot wait to get in there, crack on and hopefully have a really good season.”
