Fremantle will once again be led by Ange Stannett this AFLW season, but will have fresh voices in support as the Dockers’ leadership group was revealed.

Stannett will captain her side for a third straight season, while Gabby Newton will take over the vice-captaincy from Ash Brazill, who, along with Aine Tighe, has stepped down from the group, continuing her rise through the ranks having only been elevated to the leadership group last year.

Emma O’Driscoll will serve as deputy vice-captain, while three new names have joined former skipper Hayley Miller to complete the group.

Two-time All-Australian ruck Mim Strom is among them, coming off another stellar season to cement her status as one of the best rucks in the competition.

“I was probably a bit shocked but very happy to be in the leadership group and to try and give back to the Club means a lot to me,” she said.

“We’ve got such an incredibly talented young group and they’re all already leaders in their own right. If I can help get them holding good standards like the leaders I had when I first came to the Club, then I think we’re going to be in a really good spot.”

Experienced midfielder Meg Kuaffman will join Strom and hopes to lead the Dockers midfield by example.

“I’m very action-oriented, and I’ve never been one to shy away from setting really high standards for myself, but really just trying to encourage others to get those standards as well,” she said.

“I’m also just really excited for the group and to work alongside the other girls, especially Jess and Mim. It’s so cool seeing their growth, too.”

Jess Low has been a rock in Fremantle’s defence since being drafted in 2022, but her greater impact may be off the field.

“I was a little bit surprised (to be selected) but really excited to get to work with such a good group of leaders who have been there already, and a few new ones this year,” she said.

“I’m a real diehard who has been with the Club since they entered the competition. I’m really passionate about getting players set up off-field to feel really well supported by the Club, so they can perform on-field”
