Police claim the 39-year-old stopped and parked before reaching the testing site. But officers approached Warner’s vehicle and subjected him to a breath test and he returned a positive result.
He was arrested and taken to Maroubra Police Station where he blew 0.104.
Warner will face court next month.
Warner retired from international cricket in 2024, but has continued to play in the Big Bash League.
He enjoyed a standout season with the Thunder last season to be named captain of the official team of the tournament.
The Test great was the regular-season’s leading run-scorer for a side that won only two games and finished last on the ladder.
The Thunder’s next-most prolific batter Matthew Gilkes scored 201 runs fewer than the 433 Warner made in his eight digs.
Warner memorably smacked an unbeaten 130 runs against reigning champions Hobart in early January, the highest score recorded by a Thunder player.
It was one of two centuries Warner made this summer alongside his unbeaten 110 against the Sixers in the Sydney Smash last week.
Warner made his runs at league-high average of 86.6, scored more fours (38) than any other player and beat out Melbourne Stars skipper Marcus Stoinis for captaincy honours.
He has already signed on for next season when he will be 40 years of age.
“It was certainly a challenging year for us, we are a much better team than what we put on the field this season and were unable to put a consistent game together,” Warner said when his new deal was confirmed.
“But the support from our fans — turning up in numbers every game — it played a massive role in my decision to stay.
“I feel I’ve got plenty more to give to this team and to this game.
“I felt pretty comfortable with my performance and was proud to give the team a fighting chance.
“We’ve already begun reviewing the season and putting the right plans in place to ensure we deliver a much stronger campaign in BBL16.”
