Western Australia have suffered their second batting collapse in the space of three days to be in early trouble in the Sheffield Shield clash with Tasmania at the WACA Ground.

At lunch on day one, the Warriors were battling at 4-61, with Hilton Cartwright (13no) and Josh Philippe (8no) at the crease.

WA’s talent-laden top order fell in a heap, with Cameron Bancroft (11), Sam Whiteman (five), Shaun Marsh (16), and Cameron Green (seven) all falling cheaply as the home side crashed to 4-40 in the overcast conditions.

The Warriors also suffered a big collapse in their one-day loss to Tasmania on Friday, with the team slumping to 7-81 in that match.

Stand-in WA skipper Ashton Turner described that batting effort as a train wreck, and it wasn’t much better on Sunday after Tasmania won the toss and elected to bowl.

Whiteman was the first to go when his leading edge went straight to gully.

Bancroft was bowled by paceman Gabe Bell (2-13), and alarm bells were ringing when Green was trapped leg before wicket by Beau Webster.

Marsh was the final wicket of the morning session to fall when he edged Lawrence Neil-Smith behind.
