Australian allrounder Glenn Maxwell has played a starring role to maintain London Spirit's winning record in the Hundred.

The Spirit (6-147) ended the Southern Braves' home domination in the UK competition with a nine-run win at the Ageas Bowl.

Daniel Bell-Drummond hit 46 and Maxwell made 34 to help the Spirit reach 147, before Liam Dawson, Brad Wheal, Mason Crane and Australian Nathan Ellis defended the target.

Ross Whiteley's 52 was not enough as the Brave fell nine runs short, losing seven wickets in the process.

The Spirit are three from three in the tournament after taking the wooden spoon last year, while the defending champions lost their 100 per cent record at the Ageas Bowl over the two editions of the competition.

The Brave lost the key wicket of James Vince when he was bowled by Hampshire teammate Maxwell first ball to register an unlucky 13th golden duck in his T20/Hundred career.

Their start got worse when Quinton de Kock and Alex Davies met in the middle of the pitch with the stumps broken for a clumsy run out to leave the hosts two for four.

Davies got the scoreboard moving upwards with a four-six combo off Dawson, before Australian Marcus Stoinis was stumped for 14 in another big blow.

Davies departed for 36 and when Whiteley, another Hampshire player, was bowled by Jordan Thompson their hopes evaporated.

Earlier, Spirit chose to bat and were indebted to Maxwell, Bell-Drummond and Kieron Pollard (26 no).

Maxwell, who survived being caught behind with his review, and Bell-Drummond put on 39 together and got started with a pair of Maxwell fours, the first an effortless drive through the covers before opening up the offside again two balls later.

The Victorian then used his upper-body strength to dispatch Jacob Lintott over deep midwicket.

He pumped three more boundaries before hitting straight to mid-off.
