Western Australian allrounder Cameron Green has continued his meteoric rise, scoring his fourth Sheffield Shield century in 12 months on day three against New South Wales.

The 21-year-old prodigy batted for the entire day to surpass his previous highest first-class score of 158 not out, reaching stumps unbeaten on 185.

Green’s ability to bat time is again proving his greatest asset, surviving a lengthy bumper barrage to guide WA to 7-436, trailing New South Wales’ first innings score by just seven runs.

No batsman in world cricket has scored more centuries in the past year than the Subiaco-Floreat product’s four.

The youngster’s milestone followed in the footsteps of opener Sam Whiteman, who scored his fifth first-class century before lunch as the pair combined for a 174-run third-wicket stand.

It’s the fifth time Whiteman has passed 50 in his last seven innings, including 110 against Queensland in their final red-ball fixture last season.

The left-hander started day three on 81 as he and rising star Cameron Green built on their strong third-wicket partnership, which was coincidentally worth 81-runs overnight.

Whiteman scampered through for a quick two on the on-side to reach triple figures off the bowling of Test off-spinner Nathan Lyon.

The 28-year-old’s ton came off 193 balls, including 16 fours, at a strike rate of 51.8.

Whiteman (114) and Green (185no) safely navigated their way through the first session without loss.

The twin tons have propelled WA to only trail the reigning champions by seven runs ahead of the final day’s play.
