VideoThe contracted Geelong star is reportedly open to exploring opportunities at other AFL clubs at the end of the season.

Fremantle star Hayden Young only needs to get through training for the rest of the week to be declared available to play against Port Adelaide on Saturday after performing strongly during Tuesday’s session.

Young missed last week’s win over Sydney with a groin injury but the club always felt he would have been a chance to play if they had more than a five-day break.

The left footer looked good on Tuesday as he completed the entire session and was a key part of the midfield during match simulation.

Fremantle Director of Performance Adam Beard said he didn’t need to do a lot more to be up for selection.

“He trained really well on Saturday, did some game loads, and then did full training today, including an 18v18. He’ll be a test for this week,” he said.

Corey Wagner could also be available despite doing less than Young during training.

Wagner reported a calf problem last week and didn’t play in the WAFL. Peel have a bye this week, and given Wagner has been playing in the WAFL, his fitness is less of an issue for Fremantle.

But being fully fit would allow him to start training strongly again.

“He had some calf awareness after the game against Claremont in the WAFL and then was just managed from there (missing the game on the weekend vs East Fremantle). He got into some drills today, so he’ll be a test as well,” Beard said.

With Young and Wagner set to be available, the only Dockers unavailable will be Sam Sturt and Charlie Nicholls.

Nicholls recently had surgery on his finger and he will remain sidelined for three more weeks. Sturt has endured plenty of frustration with knee and quad injuries but he did match practice and is also expected to be back in three weeks.
