Tiger Woods car crash Florida: Champion golfer arrested, accused of driving under influence

Champion golfer Tiger Woods was involved in a rollover car crash in Florida, authorities say.

He’s been charged with driving under the influence, according to local police.

Addressing the media, Martin County Sheriff John Budensiek said: “Just before 2pm today, the Jupiter Island Police Department, which is where we currently are, received a call of a rollover crash about two and a half miles from where we are.

“The Jupiter Island Police Department responded out there and found a pickup truck pulling a pressure cleaner, and a Land Rover which was rolled over on the driver’s door.”

He confirmed Woods took a breathalyser at the scene, which returned a negative result, but refused to provide a urine sample. He was subsequently arrested and charged with driving under the influence, property damage, and refusing to submit to a lawful test.

The sheriff added: “The investigation started and initially, right off the top, it did appear that the driver of the Land Rover might be impaired. And at that point, the Chief of Jupiter Island Police Department called me from the Martin County Sheriff’s Office and asked for our assistance.”

The rollover crash occurred just after 2pm on Friday not far from where Woods lives in Jupiter Island in Florida, the Martin County Sheriff’s Office told media outlets.

There were no other details, though CBS 12 cited a source as saying there were no serious injuries.

Woods’ manager at Excel Sports did not immediately respond to a text seeking information.

It was the third time Woods has been involved in a car crash, most recently in February 2021 when his SUV ran off a coastal road in Los Angeles at a high rate of speed that led to multiple leg and ankle injuries. He said later doctors considered amputation.

Woods had been working his way back to golf from a seventh back surgery last September. He had not decided whether he could play in the Masters in April.
