Two young guns have been called up for duty at the Melbourne Mavericks after injuries ended the season before it began for another Super Netball duo.

Rolene Streutker, a South Africa national team squad member, has succeeded Lauren Moore on the newest team's list after the latter fell badly during a pre-season match against the Giants and ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in her right knee.

Moore will undergo reconstructive surgery, followed by rehab, and will miss the entire 2024 campaign.

Shae Bolton-Brown, general manager at the Mavericks, described Streutker as having a "huge amount of potential".

"Under the guidance of (head coach) Tracey (Neville) she will go from strength to strength," Bolton-Brown said.

Former Collingwood shooter Shimona Jok has also been promoted from her training partner position into the 11th player role, a tactical add-in position new to the competition that allows a training partner to be subbed in for injury or strategic advantage.

"Elevating a player of Shimona's class into our 11th player is huge for us," Bolton-Brown said.

"Shimona offers a whole new style of play in our attack end, creating a layer of depth that is critical to our game plan."

Jok was signed on as a training partner after the Magpies folded at the end of the 2023 season, with SEN taking up the eighth licence and forming the Mavericks.

Streutker, Jok and their teammates will face off against Melbourne rivals the Vixens on Sunday.
