Mat Ryan has made a winning start to his Real Sociedad career, helping his club up to third place in La Liga with a 3-2 win at Granada.

The Socceroos goalkeeper made a heralded return to Spain in the off-season after a memorable stint on loan to boyhood club Arsenal.

However a knee injury suffered in pre-season halted his challenge for the No.1 spot at the Basque club.

His second debut in Spain didn't get off to the best of nights, the former Valencia shot stopper conceded off a corner inside eight minutes.

The visitors scored two second-half goals in the space of ten minutes before the hosts were awarded a penalty in the 70th minute.

Ryan got a hand to Luis Milla's spot kick, but the well-taken strike found the bottom corner.

With just eight minutes remaining, Aritz Elustondo scored his second of the night to secure all three points and ensure Sociedad move to within three points of competition leaders Real Madrid.

Granada remain winless after six matches, recording three draws and three losses to leave them 18th.

The pressure is also already mounting on Barcelona coach Ronald Koeman after his side's stumbling form continued. They were held, despite having numerous chances, to a disappointing 0-0 draw at Cadiz with the Spanish giants ending the game with 10 men following Frenkie de Jong's 65th-minute red card.

Barca's Memphis Depay missed a golden opportunity to win it in the fourth minute of added time but dragged his shot wide, and Koeman was sent off in the final moments for dissent.

"I'm not happy, of course, because we had four or five clear chances and we didn't score any goals," Koeman said, adding that the sending off of de Jong made it even more difficult.

"I have said several times you always have to try and win every game.

"But you have to be realistic, look at the squad we have and the players missing ... we've got seven starters out."

The draw left Barcelona seventh with nine points from five games while Cadiz are 14th with six from six.

Real Betis moved up to eighth with a 3-1 win at 10th-placed Osasuna.
