The WACFL State team found the going tough against South Australia last Saturday at the Adelaide Oval, going down 10.7 (67) to 6.5 (41) in their State game.

Played under gloomy skies as a curtain-raiser to the Adelaide-Carlton AFL clash, the Croweaters were never seriously challenged, despite WA mounting a late surge.

The SWFL was well represented at the carnival, with the following players — Bailey Taylor (Carey Park), Zac Trigwell (Donnybrook), Sam Lewis (Aug-Marg River), Braden Fimmano (Harvey Bulls) and Tom Gorter (South Bunbury) — all participating in the game.

It was revealed during the streamed telecast that some WACFL players had only met coach Kane Benson a day earlier for the first time, before flying out from Perth.

Lewis, who has garnered interest from several WAFL clubs following his impressive carnival at the Nutrien Ag Solutions country football championships, began the game brilliantly, racking up seven disposals inside the opening five minutes.

Aside from his multiple efforts at each contest, Zac Trigwell’s presence in the forward line was noticable from the outset.

Unfortunately for the Sandgropers, they were routinely caught cold in defensive transition by South Australia, who bolted out to a 36-point lead by half-time.

However, the highlight of the game belonged to Lewis, who majestically fired home a goal on the run at the scoreboard end during the final term.
