Claremont’s hoodoo at Revo Fitness Stadium is over after the second-placed Tigers snapped a four-game losing streak at home, defeating West Perth by 23 points on Saturday afternoon.

Inclusion Sam van Rooyen and former Essendon spearhead Alec Waterman filled the void of missing Tigers key forward Jaiden Hunter, combining for eight goals in the 13.12 (90) to 10.7 (67) victory.

Staring down the barrel of their first wooden spoon since 1992, the unfancied Falcons challenged Claremont all the way, bringing the margin to just three goals at three-quarter time.

But they would fail to take their opportunities on goal in the final quarter, the Tigers seizing the advantage of a missed set shot from West Perth forward Keegan Knott to ice the game at the other end.

Waterman was a dominant force in attack for Claremont, putting his stamp on the contest with eight disposals, three marks and three goals inside the game’s first 35 minutes, his fourth major then sealing the game for the Tigers.

Claremont ruck Oliver Eastland provided further headaches for the Falcons, winning 36 hitouts and providing first use to midfielders Jack Musika and Bailey Rogers.

In an attempt to curtail Eastland’s dominance, West Perth coach Paul Sanzone shifted veteran forward Tyler Keitel into ball-ups, but it had little effect.

The Falcons got off to a flying start in the game’s first 20 seconds, as former West Coast midfielder Connor West shrugged off a tackle and propelled a long ball inside 50 that was sharked off the pack by speedster Knott, who ran into an open goal unopposed, the first of three from the diminutive attacker.

Playing in just his second game of senior football, draft hopeful Harvey Spawton-Guy started electrifyingly up forward for the Falcons, slotting two goals in the first term.

After missing a set shot from an acrobatic juggled mark, the 17-year-old talent redeemed himself just moments later, kicking a monster goal on the run from fifty to give West Perth an unlikely early lead.

But two goals on the death knell of quarter time would see the Tigers take the lead back, a scrounged soccer goal from Kieran Gowdie giving them the advantage to round out an arresting opening quarter, a lead they would not relinquish.

Claremont’s 10th win of the season puts them in prime position to claim a home Qualifying Final in the first week of the finals series.
