West Coast draftee Cooper Duff-Tytler backed to make an immediate impact after kicking five goals in intraclub

Exhilarating West Coast draftee Cooper Duff-Tytler is being backed to have an immediate impact after he tore the Eagles’ intraclub apart with five goals. Duff-Tytler was electric from the first term when he booted three majors, before showcasing his skills in the ruck in a standout four-quarter performance at Mineral Resources Park on Friday morning. The teenager — who was drafted with pick No.4 last year — has already come with plenty of hype, but this was the first serious sign that he could be a star at the Eagles from round one. West Coast ruckman Matt Flynn said Duff-Tytler was a “super talent” and the sky was the limit for what he could produce. “To see him come out here and kick five against some good opposition too because the keys have been doing some good work this off-season, it’s exciting,” he said. “Whatever the future looks like for him is going to be exciting for us and I can’t wait to see him in action against some opposition. “I don’t think there’s too many blokes our size and to go forward and kick five goals adds another string to his bow. The more things that he can do the better we’re going to be as a team. The sky’s the limit for him. He’s a genuine talent and I can’t wait to see where that goes. “To see today he kicked five goals straight away, it’s a good sign that he’s going to have a serious impact straight away.” Fellow first-round draftee Josh Lindsay also put his hand up for an early-season debut, taking advantage of the absence of co-captain Liam Baker who is on duties for Western Australia in the AFL Origin clash. Lindsay was part of the “A-Team” and showcased his incredible skills across half-back as well as his ability to move through traffic to impress onlookers. “He’s got some elite skills. He’s an exciting player and with Bakes out it gave him an opportunity to show his skills and press his claim for a round one spot,” Flynn said. “I am not sure how exactly that looks but we’ve got some exciting talent coming forward and he’s part of that crew.” While there was plenty of excitement to see draftees Duff-Tytler, Willem Duursma and Lindsay in action, there was also plenty of enthusiasm around veteran Elliot Yeo who got through three quarters of action unscathed. Yeo missed all of last season with an ankle injury, but moved freely and kicked three goals as he develops into his new role as an inside midfielder who also plays as a deep forward. “It makes the midfield feel so much more stable when he’s in there,” Flynn said. “We’ve got some young, good players in there but to have someone of Yeoy’s level — an All-Australian calibre player, best and fairest winner — it’s only going to make everyone aroung him better. “It stabilises that group and is exciting to have him in the side.”
