West Coast Training Notes: Harley Reid restricted to riding stationary bike as draftees get in on the act

Harley Reid hit the bike as the newest Eagles got a taste of a more intense training environment on Wednesday. Here’s what caught our eye on the track. Reid’s ride Harley Reid did more pedalling than running in the mid-week session, spending most of it on an exercise bike alongside premiership defender Tom Cole. Coming back from a syndesmosis injury which prematurely ended his 2025 season, and on the back of a calf complaint to start his pre-season, it was no surprise to see Reid being carefully managed. The star midfielder didn’t look hampered and put plenty of work in on the stationary bike. Several players were in and out of the session including Tyler Brockman, Reuben Ginbey, Jake Waterman and Tim Kelly, doing plenty of running on the side. Ruck-forward Bailey Williams was limited to only walking laps after not being spotted by track watchers on Monday. Draftees step it up It was only their second session, but there was no wrapping the newest Eagles in cotton wool as several of the draftees were exposed to the rigours of full training. Unsurprisingly, No.1 draftee Willem Duursma didn’t look at all out of place among his new teammates, with his athleticism at 191cm impressing. Young defender Josh Lindsay was arguably the standout, which his main weapon of his lethal left foot giving the Eagles’ fans in attendance plenty to be excited about. Lindsay didn’t miss a target with the ball in hand and looks prepared to be a real damaging option for coach Andrew McQualter out of defence. Rookie Fred Rodriguez also looked like he has the frame to compete alongside his more senior teammates, having made his WAFL league debut for South Fremantle in round one of this year. Draftee Sam Allen was not on the track and underwent stair-climbing work as the club takes a cautious approach with his recovery from a ruptured ACL earlier this year. Orange is the new blue-and-gold West Coast players donned orange socks for a good cause as part of the 16 Days in WA campaign for violence against women. Starting on Tuesday and running to December 10 which is Human Rights Day, the campaign aims to drive a change in culture, behaviour and attitudes that lead to violence against women and their children in society. It’s the ninth edition of the campaign and West Coast have long been strong supporters, with Cole and Bella Lewis agents of change for the campaign this year.
