West Coast captain Liam Baker says he wanted to challenge his one-game suspension for a bump on Brisbane’s Cam Rayner but was told by the lawyers he had no case.

Baker will miss the bumper western derby at Optus Stadium on Friday night after he was found guilty of rough conduct in the final quarter of the Eagles’ 24 point defeat to the dual reigning premiers.

The incident was deemed careless, medium impact and high contact which carried a one game suspension, which the club chose not to challenge.

It is the third suspension in as many seasons for the 28-year-old, who missed the Eagles’ season opener following a bump on Sydney’s Chad Warner in the final game of last season.

Baker told Triple M Perth he wanted to challenge the match review officer’s decision so he would be free to take on the Dockers but was overruled.

“When you sit down with the lawyers and when you actually go through ... and there’s not much of a case. So it was sort of just cop the whack and have a week off,” he said.

“They (the coaches) understand and Woosha (football boss John Worsfold) is in there.

“We all know what Woosha was like back in the day. He sort of had a laugh, like ‘You blokes these days, you don’t know what it was like back in the day’.

“It’s annoying missing a game, but we move on.”

Baker said he would spend the derby from the coaches’ box to help out as best as he can.

“I’ll be pretty antsy watching, I would’ve thought,” he said.

“I was pretty angry at the start of the week about missing out. I am not too bad now, but as soon as I get there, I will be mad about not being out there.”

Meanwhile, Baker addressed the fitness of good mate Jack Graham, who is reportedly in doubt for the game because of a hamstring issue.

“I think it’s pretty minor. We’ll find out (on Thursday) whether he gets up but if he doesn’t I am sure he will be right next week. It’s only a small one or a minor bit of soreness,” he said.

West Coast will be forced to make at least two changes, with small forward Jack Hutchinson to miss alongside Baker after he suffered another hamstring injury.
