The students of Flinders Park Primary School travelled to school in style last week, moving as part of a “walking school bus” during National Walk to School Safely Day.
Escorted by staff members Tara Barnett and Linda Fielding, students, parents and siblings formed a 50-strong contingent that made their way to the Bayonet Head facility on foot on May 22.
School officer Stefanie Ball said the day was a great way to encourage “active travel”, keeping both students and the environment healthy.

“The two teachers were dressed up as walking bus fairies, and they had music going, with Walking on Sunshine playing as they got into school,” she said.
“They did brave a short shower but skies were pretty clear.
“It was lovely and quite a few students were joined by their families.“
The walk was followed by a healthy breakfast of fruit salad, baked beans and toast at the school’s community hub.
National Walk to School Safely Day is an annual Australia-wide event promoted by the Pedestrian Council of Australia and Department of Transport through it’s Your Move program.
Ms Ball said the initiative encouraged students to make “healthy choices for themselves and the environment”.

“If they don’t want to walk, and take their bikes or scooters or the bus even, its better than cars,” she said.
“Everyone arriving together gave it a lovely community feel and nice vibe.”
