Margaret River Senior High School volleyball squads blitz rival South West schools ahead of country week

Margaret River Senior High School’s volleyball teams will be hoping to come back from country week with some silverware after a blitzkrieg performance in Busselton last fortnight. On June 20, the high school boys and girls squads travelled to Geographe Leisure Centre for the inaugural South West Volleyball Carnival. Teacher and volleyball co-ordinator Clare Woolfrey said the carnival featured a stand-out performance from the teams who went unbeaten against rival schools. “Our boys and girls country week squads delivered outstanding performances, going undefeated throughout the day’s matches,” she said. “Although the carnival format did not include finals, the competition served as an excellent opportunity for our teams to test their skills, fine-tune their strategies, and build momentum leading into country week. “The level of teamwork, determination and sportsmanship displayed by our students was commendable and a great reflection of their hard work in training.” Ms Woolfrey said the carnival also offered a valuable chance “to play against strong regional schools in a relaxed yet competitive environment”. Competing schools included squads from Busselton, Manjimup and Harvey senior high schools plus Cape Naturaliste and Manea colleges. “Coaches and players alike left Busselton feeling confident and energised, with high hopes for continued success at country week,” she said. The squads were in Perth this week playing at HBF Stadium as part of MRSHS’s biggest ever contingent of students attending country week. Other teams were competing in indoor cricket, basketball, Australian Rules football, dance, speech and debate, among other pursuits.
