Broome residents are set to enjoy faster internet speeds and stronger mobile coverage, with Optus activating the town’s first 5G site.

The upgrade includes Optus 5G+, which offers broader coverage and greater capacity compared to standard 5G, improving service for eligible customers.

Optus local general manager Dave Morrisey said the rollout would make a noticeable difference across the community.

“Local businesses and customers in the region will notice the positive impacts of Optus 5G connectivity in the area as they go about their daily lives,” he said.

“The improved connectivity will bring significant benefits, including faster data speeds and wider 5G mobile coverage as more 5G sites are turned on, helping the community to stay better connected.”

The new site adds to three existing Optus 4G towers across the town, reinforcing the company’s investment in Broome since installing its first tower in 1995.

Optus plans to fast-track its 5G rollout nationwide, targeting 1500 regional sites by the end of 2028 and 2444 by 2030.

Eligible customers can trial the network free for seven days through the My Optus app.
