BDCA 2023: Colts batter Murray Goodwin has suspension reduced following secondary protest and appeal process

Colts Cricket Club batter Murray Goodwin could feature in the 2023-24 Bunbury and Districts Cricket Association first grade season, after his three-year ban was heavily reduced earlier this month. BDCA president Russell Lindroth confirmed with the South Western Times that following a secondary protest and disputes board process, Goodwin would now be ineligible for only six matches, with the remainder of his three-year sentence suspended. Initially, Goodwin received a 16-game game ban — with the remainder suspended — after being found guilty of committing a Level 4 offence under MCC Law 42.5 on Day 1 of the 2022-23 BDCA first grade grand final against Marist at the Bunbury Recreation Ground. After being dismissed by seamer Tyson Italiano for two, Goodwin walked off to the pavilion and poked his bat in the direction of Marist ‘keeper Cam Marra’s shoulder, after the Blues player ran towards him. Goodwin, a WACA life member and former Zimbabwe Test batter, had his charge upgraded to Level 4 on the morning of the second day, after being told following day one he would be reported for a Level 1 offence. The upgrade to Level 4 meant he was unable to take any further part in the game, which Marist eventually won by 22 runs. Goodwin and Colts Cricket Club president Jaysen Miguel were contacted for comment.
