A 47-year-old Bunbury man has been jailed for possessing 11.44g of methamphetamine that he intended selling to at least 10 other people. Neville Troy Watson was sentenced to two years and eight months in jail after he was previously found guilty of possessing the illicit substance with intent to sell or supply following a District Court trial in Bunbury. The court was told police arrived at a Montefiore Street property in Australind on the morning of September 6, 2019 to execute a drug search. Upon gaining entry, the officers saw co-offender Jodee Narelle Read getting out of the shower while Watson arrived a short time later. Police located and seized 10 clip-seal bags, containing a total of 11.44g of methamphetamine, positioned over the shower drain. A set of digital scales, a ticklist and a Samsung tablet containing messages alluding to drug dealing were located and seized within the bedroom of the property. Read was previously convicted of attempting to destroy the methamphetamine and was sentenced to a suspended 12-month jail term in May. In sentencing, District Court Judge Mara Barone said she took the view that the messages found on the Samsung tablet related to the sale and supply of drugs and the messages had been sent to up to 17 different people. Judge Barone said she was also satisfied that Watson was a user and dealer of methamphetamine and had a history of selling drugs to others to support his addiction. “You don’t need me to point out that methamphetamine is literally a drug that causes misery in people’s lives,” she said. “You could probably look around Bunbury Prison and find a very large portion of that population have been in the past drug users and drug users of methamphetamine. “It seems that it leads people down a one-way path ultimately in the end, to broken relationships, failed work histories, lack of coping skills and ending up in custody. “As a 47-year-old man you should know that and I think you do.” Watson’s sentence was backdated to July 2020 and he will be eligible for parole in November.
