A Harvey man has been barred from making contact with his wife after allegedly assaulting in a verbal altercation that turned physical.

Christopher James Marshall, 41, appeared in Bunbury Magistrates Court on Thursday where he faced a charge of common assault in circumstances of aggravation.

It was alleged Mr Marshall and his wife were at their home in Harvey during the evening hours of Wednesday, July 12 when they engaged in a verbal argument that turned physical.

Police say Mr Marshall slapped his partner in the chin, causing pain.

During a police interview following his arrest, police say Mr Marshall admitted to officers that he had pushed his wife.

Despite the allegations indicating his wife had suffered a minor injury, the court was told on Thursday that the alleged victim was still in hospital though details of her alleged injuries were not revealed

During his brief court appearance, Mr Marshall had his charge adjourned to obtain legal advice and did not apply for bail.

However, police applied for a family violence restraining order on the alleged victim’s behalf, preventing Mr Marshall from making contact with her without a legal representative.

Magistrate Benjamin Tyers granted the family violence restraining order and Mr Marshall was remanded in custody with his next appearance due to take place on July 20.
