SWFL 2022: Harvey Bulls gore Dunsborough Sharks by 110 points in last home game of the regular season
Harvey Bulls’ South West Football League women’s finals hopes have been given a huge boost after they recorded their biggest win of the season, defeating Dunsborough Sharks by 110 points.
The Bulls hosted the Sharks in their final home game of the regular season on Sunday, and celebrated Megan Minton’s 50th game in style.
Harvey were quick to take control of the match from the outset, quickly driving the ball forward, with Minton scoring the first goal of the afternoon.
From that moment, it was one-way traffic for the Bulls as the likes of Krystal Carter, Emma Innes and Sierraleone Simpson booted goals to build up a lead.
As the Sharks began to put the pressure on, the Bulls were kept to kicking minor scores for the rest of the term as the ball remained within Harvey’s forward 50.
At quarter-time, the Bulls led 4.6 (30) to 0.0 (0).
Despite promising efforts from Dunsborough, the Bulls remained in control throughout the second quarter, with Carter and Greta McKinley laying plenty of tackles and strong driving by Innes and Rachel Shepherd.
The Bulls continued extending their lead with goals from Carter, Shepherd, Minton and Emma Faulkner, while the Sharks struggled to get the ball past the centre square.
By half-time, Harvey had blown the margin out to 70 points.
Despite Brigitte Morgan coming off the field early because of a knock, Dunsborough rallied to continue putting the pressure on Harvey throughout the third term.
Although Harvey showed plenty of prowess, they were restricted to kicking 2.4 for the term, with majors via Shepherd and Caitlin Shales.
Although an injury saw Rachel Davey carried off the field, Harvey remained composed during the final quarter as they continued extending their lead, with two successive goals from Shales and a further major from Faulkner helping the Bulls reach triple digits.
While it was too late to make a last-ditch comeback effort, the Sharks found an opportunity to score after a 50m penalty helped them drive the ball forward.
However, they were ultimately kept to scoring just one behind as Harvey went on to win 16.15 (111) to 0.1 (1).
