SWFL: Eaton spoil the Hawks’ party, while Bunbury lose their first game since 2024 in thrilling round one

Eaton have spoiled the Augusta-Margaret River party in the Hawks’ first South West Football League women’s match, while Busselton have stormed past Bunbury. Aiming for a historic four-peat this season, Bunbury have started in the worst possible way, losing their first game since July 21 2024 after a second-quarter assault in which Busselton kicked six goals to none, leading by 30 points at the main break. Both sides only managed one goal each in the second half with conditions deteriorating, and Sophie Proudfoot proved to be too strong, kicking five goals for Busselton in the 7.3 (45) to 2.5 (17) win. Eaton have already tied their win total for the 2025 season with their win over Augusta-Margaret River, led by Tanisha Anderson, who kicked all three of her side’s goals to win 3.3 (21) to 2.2 (14). Annabelle Jones kicked a major midway through the third quarter to bring the margin to a solitary point, but it was Anderson’s third goal in the last quarter that pulled the Boomers over the line. South Bunbury started their new era under coach Kloe Bassett with a 2.6 (18) to 2.3 (15) win over Dunsborough at home. The Sharks got off to a hot start with two goals in the opening quarter, with Alyssa Bain’s goal for South Bunbury in the third giving the home side a six-point deficit heading into the last quarter. Nateisha Roberts was the hero for the Tigers, kicking a late goal in the last quarter for the win.
