Eaton Community College becomes first high school in State to offer a CrossFit program contributing to WACE

Eaton Community College has become the first high school in the State to offer a CrossFit program, with the course now contributing to students’ WA Certificate of Education. After becoming an official affiliate of the popular fitness regimen CrossFit, ECC now hosts the classes as an endorsed specialist program which contributes points to students’ WACE certificate. The school was allocated a $10,000 grant following a competitive international application and since the program’s initial implementation in 2019 students have been keen to keep up the healthy habit throughout high school. Health and physical education teacher Craig Aldridge said CrossFit was the most popular program the school offered and was an encouraging, supportive environment that allows students to workout in a group setting at their own pace. “We submitted an application along with detailed course outlines, assessment policies and program information to ensure it met all of the requirements of a senior school course,” he said. “Student surveys showed us that students enjoyed coming to school more on days they had CrossFit, overall students’ attendance was better on days they had CrossFit.” ECC’s school gym has increased to a 200sqm room with the investment into equipment and resources reaching $70,000.
