Harvey-Brunswick-Leschenault record thumping victory over Eaton Boomers in South West Football League

Harvey-Brunswick-Leschenault made a statement with an 11-goal win over bottom-placed Eaton on Sunday. The Lions kept the Boomers goalless for the first three terms before Eaton kicked three last-quarter goals to leave the scores 12.19 (91) to 3.7 (25) at full time. A strong wind played in to HBL’s hands early as key forward Jarrod Humphries capitalised, kicking the first of his three goals less than four minutes in to the game. The Lions continued to pile on the pressure but kicked inaccurately to lead 3.8 (26) to no score at quarter time. More of the same continued in the second and third terms as HBL’s midfield flexed their muscles and showed why the Lions are a genuine chance come finals time. Eaton finally had something to smile about as midfielder Josh Scott helped his side kick three goals in the final quarter. It was not all good news for the Lions as defender Ben Ablett went down in the last quarter with an ugly injury to his left ankle. Lions coach John Baggetta said the team was focused and excited for what lies ahead. “At this stage of the year we are just looking to improve and get consistency week in week out leading in to finals,” he said. “We’ve been improving the last few weeks on where we want to get to, so we were pretty happy with that.” HBL play fourth-placed South Bunbury next week before facing ladder leaders Bunbury and ninth-placed Donnybrook in the last two rounds.
