A heartwarming partnership caught the attention of the crowd at the Leschenault cricket ground earlier in November, with a father-son duo sharing the pitch for more than 33 overs. Rising star Rowan Jamieson, 13, and his father Shane, mounted a giant 137 runs together for the Leschenault Cricket Club’s fourth grade side in a round five clash with Hay Park. Rowan strode to the crease with the score at 2-3 and went on to make a gutsy 41, while his father (who captained the side) came in at 3-14 and finished on 86 not out. The Green Caps fell 67 runs short of Hay Park’s total, but Shane said the “sensational” partnership was a memory he would treasure. “We had one of those days where it was enjoyable and fantastic,” he said. “It’s what you play sport for and get your kids involved in a club for.” Rowan is averaging 135 in the BDCA Year 10 competition and has two 50s from his four innings. Shane, a talented hockey player, said he was excited to see his son grow as an athlete.
