Perth man charged with dangerous driving causing the death of his 12-year-old passenger in Woodanilling named

The identity of the Perth man accused of causing a fatal two-vehicle crash in Woodanilling that killed his 12-year-old passenger earlier this year has been revealed. Tarique Ehsan, 48, was represented at the Narrogin Magistrates Court by his lawyer Rachel Coole on Tuesday. Mr Ehsan reported to Armadale Magistrates Court that morning to advise he would not be attending court in Narrogin and that Ms Coole would appear on his behalf. The 48-year-old is charged with dangerous driving causing death, dangerous driving causing grievous bodily harm, and two counts of dangerous driving causing bodily harm. Mr Ehsan, from Piara Waters, was allegedly behind the wheel of a Honda CR-V station wagon that was involved in a collision with a Mitsubishi Triton utility in Woodanilling, at the intersection of Great Southern Highway and Robinson Road, on September 25. One of the Honda CR-V’s five passengers, a 12-year-old girl, died at the scene. Three other occupants of the Honda were airlifted to Royal Perth Hospital with serious injuries after being freed from the vehicle shortly after 2pm. The fifth passenger, a second young girl, was airlifted to Perth Children’s Hospital. A 32-year-old male passenger of the Honda is undergoing rehabilitation at Fiona Stanley Hospital after fighting for his life for six weeks in the RPH intensive care unit. The driver of the Triton suffered minor injuries and was taken to Katanning Health Service. Magistrate Erin O’Donnell told the court that Mr Ehsan had advised of his non-attendance. Ms O’Donnell said Mr Ehsan needed to be present in person or via audio link for future hearings, and he is “not excused from appearance in any manner”. Despite this, she allowed Ms Coole to speak on behalf of the accused, with Ms Coole telling the court her client would enter pleas at his next appearance. Mr Ehsan will next appear in Narrogin Magistrates Court on February 3 to enter pleas. His bail was extended.
