Tens of thousands hit the streets for Perth’s City to Surf on Sunday morning, with some going the extra mile in spectacular costumes.

Starting in the heart of the CBD and finishing at City Beach Oval, WA’s longest-running community fun run offered multiple distances and waves for runners, walkers and rollers of all abilities, with almost 35,000 participants taking part.

With most runners setting off from the Perth CBD at around 8.30am, some of those tackling the 4km course — which started in Floreat — were descending on City Beach as early as 9am.

Established in 1975, the Chevron City to Surf helps to raise raise money to support thousands of Australians living with a disability.

It was a remarkable sight as thousands of sprightly runners flooded roads usually packed with cars, creating a sea of blue in their event shirts.

But some participants went above and beyond when it came to their race-day looks.

There were tutus aplenty, bananas on the run and fairy wings fluttering through the crowd, making for an array of colourful and wonderfully wacky costumes.

By Sunday afternoon, the event had raised just over $202,000 towards its $500,000 goal, with donations still able to be made online.
