Car driver facing charges after e-scooter rider seriously injured in collision

A driver has been charged after allegedly colliding with an e-scooter in South Kalgoorlie on Saturday morning, leaving the rider seriously injured.

WA Police on Tuesday said the 30-year-old driver of a white Hyundai Getz allegedly collided with the man riding the e-scooter on Edgar Street, near Clive Street about 4.45am.

Police alleged the driver of the vehicle failed to stop after the collision and left the area.

The e-scooter rider, a 37-year-old man, was seriously injured and taken to Kalgoorlie Health Campus for treatment.

Police said a 30-year-old Victory Heights woman would appear in Kalgoorlie Magistrates Court on September 22 facing one charge of driver failed to stop and ensure assistance received after incident occasioning grievous bodily harm, one charge of no authority to drive (cancelled), and one charge of possessing a prohibited drug (methylamphetamine).

Police said investigations were ongoing and major crash officers were appealing for anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or online at www.crimestopperswa.com.au.
